Ruth graduated from the Birmingham School of Music with diplomas in Teaching, Performance and Recital. Whilst there she was the winner of several prizes, including the Chamber Music prize on two occasions. Further study followed at the Royal Academy of Music and later a return to the Birmingham Conservatoire lead to a post-graduate Performance Diploma. Ruth has had a varied career including solo performances of many of the major concertos, including those by Dvorak and Elgar, solo recitals throughout the UK, chamber music and freelance orchestral playing with many organisations. She was principal cello with Mid-Wales Opera for five years, and also for The Bardi Orchestra. She has also worked in many theatres including Birmingham Repertory Theatre. She is currently working as a solo recitalist and is the cellist for The Forum, a flexible chamber ensemble, of which she is a founder member.
