Additional Info: With a career spanning over 25 years Richard has worked with leading orchestras such as The Telefilmonic Orchestra, The City of London Philharmonic, The Russian Orchestra of London, The London Pops Orchestra, Telford Chamber Orchestra, MANA Chamber Orchestra, The Bolshoi/Marinsky Ballet, The Queen Elizabeth Orchestra, The New Queens Hall Orchestra, The Moscow State Ballet, The English Players, The Sirius Orchestra, The Showbiz Pops Orchestra and The City Chamber Orchestra of London. He spent many years working as a solo cellist on many West End productions including Les Miserables, Cats, Miss Saigon, Killing Rasputin, Beauty and the Beast, Sunset Boulevard, Mack and Mabel, Oliver, Joseph, and Evita, touring the UK, Ireland and Cyprus with other major productions.
After winning The Cliffe Memorial Award for Music in 1987, he began his studies at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with renowned cellists, Marius May, Antonio Lysy and Eduardo Vassallo, pianist and conductor George Hadjinikos, piano pedagogue Una Bradbury and conductors Karen Humphries, Dr. James Eastman and Dr. Colin Beeson. He took part in masterclasses with Bruno Shrecker, The Alberni, Franz Schubert & Chilingirian String Quartets and The Nash Ensemble. He was a member of the RNCM Symphony and Opera Orchestras and in his final year, after being awarded The Lawrence Atwell Scholarship for Advanced Study, was invited to be principal cellist with the British Youth Opera Orchestra at Sadlers Wells and on tour, under the baton of Sir Mark Elder.
As a chamber musician, Richard has performed with the The Banks Piano Trio, The Acosta Piano Trio, The Amici Quartet, Trio Fuego (an Argentine tango trio with whom he recorded the album TechNo Tango for Powerbase Records ) and the Shirley Thompson Ensemble, performing premieres on the South Bank by Roxanna Panufnik, and the solo cello work Blue For You by Shirley Thompson ( his recording of which was used by the Ballet Boyz and featured in their documentary on Channel 4 ). Radio premieres include chamber works by composer Tunde Jegede.
