Denise Tan is a Singaporean cellist who has recently completed a Masters of Music in Performance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where she was awarded the Alan Niekirk and Loveday Scholarships, and studied with Professors David Kenedy and Derek Aviss. She previously graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Cello Performance, under the studio of Mr Leslie Tan.
Passionate about orchestral playing, she was a member of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra from 2016 to 2019, holding the position of principal cellist from 2018. During this time, she participated in concert tours and festivals, and was invited by Maestra Wu Qiang to perform as a guest musician with the Chinese Traditional Orchestra of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, as part of the 36th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.
Since 2018, Denise has been regularly engaged in Singapore’s local scene, playing both Western classical and Chinese traditional music. Ensembles she has worked with include the Musicians' Initiative, Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra, Ding Yi Music Company and The Philharmonic Orchestra. Recent highlights include a number of solo recitals, leading Strauss’ Also Sprach Zarathustra and playing basso continuo in the opera production Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria. |
